Secondary suite fire code legalizations have been extended from May 31, 2020 to now the deadline is Dec 31, 2021! Act now if you have a suite that pre-dates March 2018 and does not have a legal City of Calgary registry number.
What are the incentives of legalizing an existing suite before the deadline?
- Financial incentives in permit costs up to $900
- Avoid the expense of adding a separate secondary heating supply including all the required ducting work
- Financial savings on having existing work / building codes grand fathered and not needing to be brought up to today’s code.
- **After the extended deadline of Dec 31 2021 the City of Calgary has been very clear that they will be cracking down on ALL non-registered illegal suites. They will be actively looking for them to ensure they are not being rented out. **
