Legalizing Secondary Suites…City of Calgary Extension!

Here is a suite gift from the City of Calgary! 

Secondary suite fire code legalizations have been extended from May 31, 2020 to now the deadline is Dec 31, 2021! Act now if you have a suite that pre-dates March 2018 and does not have a legal City of Calgary registry number. 

What are the incentives of legalizing an existing suite before the deadline?

  • Financial incentives in permit costs up to $900
  • Avoid the expense of adding a separate secondary heating supply including all the required ducting work
  • Financial savings on having existing work / building codes grand fathered and not needing to be brought up to today’s code.
  • **After the extended deadline of Dec 31 2021 the City of Calgary has been very clear that they will be cracking down on ALL non-registered illegal suites. They will be actively looking for them to ensure they are not being rented out. **
